23/24 Team Managers - Leah and Chanelle
REGIONAL RELAY AND INDIVIDUAL REPORT
The 2024 season has been a huge season for our club. Regional relays were a big success with many personal bests that helped 30 teams progress to the State Relay Championships that were held in December last year. The most impressive thing Chanelle and I noticed were all the CLAC athletes supporting one another and cheering from the sidelines. Caloundra is a vocal club, and you didn’t disappoint! The teams all showed amazing sportsmanship! As a bonus, Caloundra racked up 6 records at this event.
U11G LJ, Discus and 4x100m
U12G Medley
U13G Medley
U16 G Shotput
Well done girls! I must also mention our club captain Isabel Tofful, who was selected to run in the Sunshine Coast Regional Swedish Relay Team.
Moving on to the State Relay Championships, the club was awarded 10 medals. This is a very impressive effort as competition is tough at these events, and Caloundra showed they are a force to be reckoned with. All our relay athletes put 100% effort into every event. We are very proud of their efforts both on and off the field. A truly great bunch of kids doing great things for our club.
Overall, we finished with 10 medals
We must make special mention to our U7’s and U8’s who waited patiently to compete in their events as well. It is wonderful seeing our most junior athletes getting a taste of what competition is like, and we hope to see you back next year.
Again, Caloundra were seen in their yellow and blue cheering from the sidelines supporting one another, showing great sportsmanship and comradery. In total the club won 82 medals, with 26 of those being 1st places. There were 25 second places and 31 3rds. In addition, we had 31 athletes gain 4th place, and these athletes have also progressed to states. That’s 113 events placed in the top 4 at regionals. Congratulations to all these athletes.
To top off a successful regional weekend, I would like to add that 1 official record was broken.
Another State Championships done and dusted for the year. Chanelle and I were blown away with how our CLAC athletes performed over the weekend. There were highs and lows but one thing that never changed was the support our state athletes gave one another.
We had 43 athletes hit the track and field giving it their all-in front of family, friends, and supporters. The live streaming was a great addition, allowing those unable to attend to feel part of the action.
In total Caloundra athletes secured themselves 7 Gold Medals, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronzes bringing the tally to 13 medals. We also had a some very close 4th places which went to Rhylee Chapman the U9 700mWalk, Clayton Fowler in the U13 B 400m, Johnathan Myerthall in the U11 B 1100mW and Ryan White in the U13B Shot Put. Congratulations to these athletes on stella performances. All the athletes that competed should be very proud and we hope they continue competing.
Our medal winners were as follows:
U10G Isla Cooper: Isla walked her way to Silver in the 1100m walk. A fantastic race that showed grace under pressure. Isla shows a mature attitude and great sportsmanship.
U10 G Savanah Kuhl: If there was an athlete of the competition, we would have to give it to Savanah. After a nasty fall at the finish line, resulting in a fractured wrist, this athlete still pulled off an incredible feat to win Gold not only the 200m, but also the 100m. Not even a back slab could slow her down!
U10B Parker-Lee Phillips: Parker made it to state for 5 events. A very talented athlete who won a silver medal in the Long Jump and a Bronze in the High Jump. I have no doubt we will see him at states next year.
U11G Taylor Chapman: Taylor has secured Gold in the 1100m walk for the second year in a row. A true champion in this event, Taylor floated around the track with great technique and a positive attitude.
U11G Bayleigh Tickle: Bayleigh has been an athlete that has worked hard over several seasons and has gone from strength to strength. An incredible walk that resulted in a Bronze Medal for this event. One thing that stands out is Bayleigh’s smile. You could see it from high up in the stands.
U11G Amber Livingston: Amber managed to secure 3 Gold Medal spots in the 100m, 200m, and Javelin. An exciting 100m final saw her only 0.1sec off the Qld Best Performance Time.
U13G Summer Livingston: Showing true determination Summer secured her first individual State Gold Medal winning the 400m, and then topped it off with a Bronze in the 800m.
U13B Clayton Fowler: Clayton made his mark in this year’s championships winning a bronze medal in the U12-13 Multiclass Long Jump event. We hope to see Clayton continue his athletic journey as he shows great talent and commitment to his training
Thank you to all the parents who not only helped over the weekend but help at all our championships events. These events don’t run without the volunteer support of our CLAC families and friends.
As always, I have to thank Chanelle who works very hard behind the scenes and is the most organised and kindest person I know!
