22/23 Team Managers- Leah and Chanelle
It is great to talk about an athletic season where we were totally free from COVID restrictions and were not adversely impacted by extreme weather events.
The 2022/23 season was the season of records. Record numbers of athlete registrations, team representation at relays, club records and personal bests.
Regional relays were our biggest turn out in the club’s history.
A total of 141 athletes participated, making up 57 track and field teams.
The extremely hot and humid weather conditions didn’t stop our CLAC athletes, as there was a sea of blue and yellow uniforms inundating the university track.
Our athletes and their families were all out in force supporting one another and showing an amazing display of team spirit and camaraderie.
On top of this we had had a slew of records including the following:
U10G 4x100 and U10G Swedish medley. Taylor, Maxi, Lucia and Amber
U11G 4x100, U11G Distance medley and Discus. Ava, Jacinta, Gemma, Harper, Makayla, Zandri and Bailee
U11B 4x100 and U11B Discus. Zayden, Nate Fletcher and Leylan
U12G 4x100 and U12G Distance medley. Keeley, Ella, Summer and Sophie
U12B Discus. Ryan and Hudson
U14G Shotput. Mia and Holly
U15G Discus. Zandri and Kyla
The LAQ State Relay Championships were a massive day full of highs, lows and flying marquees.
We had 48 athletes competing in the U9-U17 age groups.
Caloundra were outstanding winning 10 team medals. Not only did every athlete put 100% into every event, but they also encouraged and cheered for their teammates. The large number of U9’s could all be seen at the fence line supporting the older athletes which was wonderful to witness.
The U11 girls and boys won 7 medals with Zandri, Bailee, Fletcher and Leylan winning gold in the Shot Put and Long Jump respectively. Both Fletcher and Leylan then added to their field medals to then win silver in the U11 boys discus.
The U11 Girls were amazing in their track relays winning bronze in both the 4x100m and distance medley relays. Harper, Ava, Mackayla, Jacinta and Gemma should be very proud of their efforts.
The U11 boys gained bronze in the 4x100m and ran a very exciting distance medley. A fight to the end put them in 2nd, winning a silver medal for this event. Fletcher, Nate, Leylan, Zayden, Loius and Braxton all put in massive efforts and should be commended. Overall, the U11 age group contributed 7 of the 10 medals won.
A truly fantastic effort, that shows teamwork and training pays off.
The under 10 girls started off with Amber and Sophie winning a silver medal in the shotput. To add to the tally Lucia, Maxi, Taylor and Amber ran fantastic 4x100m to take out gold for this event. Well done girls.
Our U17 girls finished off their final ever relay together with little athletics to earn a bronze medal in the 4x100m. Ellie, Tiarna, Eboniee and Amber ran a spectacular track relay that had those watching out of their seats.
These girls have been doing little athletics since a very young age, and to see them run and hug each other after their race was a bittersweet moment for our club and their parents. An inspiration for our younger athletes, they represent the values of athletics, and have contributed to our club by demonstrating support, encouragement, and teamwork. We congratulate them on this achievement.
A special mention to Eboniee who ran for the SunCoast Regional 4x100m relay. These girls were selected by the Regional Coordinator and represented the fastest girls in the Sunshine Coast region. They won the gold medal and cemented themselves as the fastest region in the state.
The individual Regional Championships were held in Feb 2023.
We had a total of 71 athletes compete over 2 days of competition.
We had a record number of personal best performances and 4 records broken. Amber broke the 100m record, Summer the 800m, Ella the 1500mW and Riley our club captain took out the 300mH record.
The State Championships were held in Townsville this year in March, and from the 38 athletes who progressed, 29 of these athletes made the journey up north to compete, and our club is very proud of all their achievements.
It was a fantastic weekend in which families bonded and showed a huge amount of support for one another. People arrived early and stayed late to watch their fellow CLAC athletes compete.
Congratulations to all athletes who attended states, as just to qualify at this level is a huge achievement. The hard work you all put in certainly paid off with your results.
Finally, Chanelle and I would like to thank all the wonderful families who help make our job easier. Without the support from you we couldn’t get the job done. We appreciate our parent volunteers, and those that regularly put their hands up to help. On a personal note, I must thank Chanelle who was always there, never said no to any task and is an absolute whizz at compiling results. Thank you!

Eboniee Hilton was our most senior athlete competing for Caloundra this year. In a field of tough competition, she earnt 2 silver and 2 bronze medals for sprints and hurdles. In addition to this Eboniee not only won the LAQ State Combined event for her age group, but she also broke the record and took out the stall gift race. Congratulations Eboniee
A special mention must go to U10 Girl Taylor Chapman. This athlete achieved something quite extraordinary, that has not been seen at our club in a very long time. Not only did she win the U10 G 1100m Walk, but she also broke a 17-year-old state record with a cracking time of 5:41.64. An absolute amazing result for Taylor and for our club. Congratulations Taylor!
